House Quotations
Books constitute capital. A library book lasts as long as a house, for hundreds of years. It is not, then, an article of mere consumption but fairly of capital, and often in the case of professional men, setting out in life, it is their only capital. Thomas Jefferson It is our duty still to endeavor to avoid war; but if it shall actually take place, no matter by whom brought on, we must defend ourselves. If our house be on fire, without inquiring whether it was fired from within or without, we must try to extinguish it. Thomas Jefferson I don't take a dime of their [lobbyist] money, and when I am president, they won't find a job in my White House. Barack Obama A house divided against itself cannot stand. Abraham Lincoln Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built. Abraham Lincoln If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons. Winston Churchill I think Little League is wonderful. It keeps the kids out of the house. Yogi Berra The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind. Kahlil Gibran The lust for comfort, that stealthy thing that enters the house a guest, and then becomes a host, and then a master. Kahlil Gibran May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house. George Carlin |
